Pasta Mummies

“Pasta Mummies” are a fun festive-themed dish, often associated with Halloween or other celebrations. It usually consists of pasta wrapped in a way that resembles bandages, like a mummy. I can propose an Italian version of the concept, which could be tagliatelle wrapped around sausages to create a similar effect. Here is how you can prepare them:

Ingredients

  • Pork sausages (or a vegetarian substitute)
  • Egg tagliatelle
  • Tomato sauce (homemade or purchased)
  • Mozzarella
  • Black olives (for the mummies’ eyes)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. In a pan, lightly cook the sausages on each side until they turn golden; they should not be completely cooked as they will finish in the oven.
  3. Once cooled, wrap some tagliatelle around each sausage to create the mummy bandage effect, leaving space for the eyes.
  4. Place the pasta-wrapped sausages in a baking dish.
  5. Pour some tomato sauce over or around the sausages so the pasta does not dry out during baking.
  6. Cut the mozzarella into small pieces for the eyes and place a piece on each designated eye space on the mummies.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the pasta turns golden and the mozzarella melted.
  8. To finish, place half a black olive on top of each piece of mozzarella to complete the mummies’ eyes.

This dish is not only delicious but is also a great way to entertain children or add a festive touch to a themed dinner. Adults can enjoy it too, perhaps accompanying the dish with a light red wine.
