Parmesan Wafers

Parmesan wafers are a tasty and very simple to prepare appetizer. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 100 g of freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Lay out a sheet of parchment paper on a baking tray.
  3. Take a spoonful of grated Parmesan and form spaced mounds on the parchment paper. Flatten them slightly so that they have a round shape and are uniform in thickness.
  4. Bake for about 3-5 minutes or until you see that the Parmesan has completely melted and turned golden in color.
  5. Remove the wafers from the oven and use a spatula to lift them from the parchment paper and transfer them onto a kitchen roll or a wine bottle to give them a curved shape. Do this step quickly before the wafers cool down and harden.
  6. Let them cool down completely before serving.

The wafers will be crispy and fragrant, perfect to accompany an aperitif or to be used as decorations in salads or dishes based on creams and veloutés, adding a touch of crispiness.

Curiosity

In Italy, Parmesan is a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) cheese produced following very specific rules in terms of production location and processes that ensure its high quality. The wafers are an excellent way to appreciate the intense and slightly fruity taste of this cheese without overloading it with other flavors.
