Parmesan Knots

Parmesan knots are very tasty appetizers and easy to prepare. They are perfect as starters or to accompany aperitifs. Here is how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 150 g of rectangular puff pastry
  • 100 g of grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • A pinch of black pepper (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a work surface.
  3. Brush the surface of the puff pastry with a beaten egg.
  4. Evenly distribute the grated parmesan over the entire surface of the puff pastry. If you like, you can add a pinch of black pepper to give an extra touch.
  5. Roll the puff pastry onto itself to form a tight roll.
  6. With a sharp knife, cut the roll into slices about 1 cm thick.
  7. Take each slice and tie the strip onto itself, forming a knot. If the knot doesn’t hold its shape, you can use toothpicks to keep it together while cooking.
  8. Arrange the knots on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each one.
  9. Bake and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the knots have turned golden.
  10. Allow them to cool slightly before serving, as the hot parmesan can be very hot.

Parmesan knots are delicious both warm and at room temperature. They can be a great idea to surprise your guests with something simple yet tasty.

Curiosity

Parmesan is an Italian PDO cheese (Protected Designation of Origin) with a long history behind it. It is produced in some provinces of Emilia-Romagna and Lombardy and to be considered as such it must age for at least 12 months, but there are versions that can even reach over 36 months of aging.
