Panettone Truffles
17/11/2023Panettone truffles are a creative and delicious way to reuse leftover panettone during the holidays. Here’s what you need and how to prepare them.
Ingredients
- 300 g of leftover panettone
- 100 g of dark chocolate
- 2 tablespoons of heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of liqueur (for example rum or alchermes)
- Cocoa powder to taste
- Powdered sugar to taste (optional)
Preparation
- Finely crumble the panettone in a large bowl.
- Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave and add it to the crumbled panettone.
- Add the heavy cream and the chosen liqueur. Mix well until you get a homogeneous and compact mixture.
- Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, so it will be easier to work with.
- Take portions of the mixture and form nut-sized balls with your hands.
- Roll the truffles in the cocoa powder or powdered sugar, according to your taste, until completely covered.
- Arrange the truffles on a serving plate and let them rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
Remember that alcohol can be omitted or replaced with a non-alcoholic flavoring, such as vanilla extract, to make the dessert suitable for children or for those who do not consume alcohol.
Curiosity
The tradition of sweets made with panettone and chocolate such as truffles comes from the need to recycle leftover panettone after the Christmas holidays. These little treats are perfect to accompany coffee and to amaze guests with something original and tasty. Their resemblance to real truffles lies in their shape and the cocoa powder that “stains” them, but they are definitely sweeter and more pleasant to the palate!
