Pan-seared salmon fillet

The pan-seared salmon fillet is a simple yet delicious dish. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets (about 150-200g each)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Aromatic herbs to taste (for example, thyme or rosemary)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the frying pan over medium heat.
  2. In the meantime, pat the salmon fillets dry with kitchen paper and season them with salt and pepper on both sides.
  3. Add the extra virgin olive oil to the pan and let it heat up for a minute.
  4. Add the clove of garlic and the aromatic herbs to the pan to flavor the oil.
  5. Place the salmon fillets in the pan skin-side down. Cook them for about 3-4 minutes, until the skin becomes crispy.
  6. Gently turn the salmon fillets over with a spatula and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.
  7. Squeeze the lemon juice over the salmon fillets just before turning off the heat.
  8. Remove the garlic and aromatic herbs and serve the salmon immediately.

Fun Facts

Salmon is a fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, essential for heart and nervous system health. Regular consumption of fish like salmon can contribute to a balanced diet.

Note: if you prefer an Italian twist, you can add a touch of balsamic vinegar after cooking the salmon, thus creating a light sweet and sour flavor for the dish. Alternatively, for a more composed sauce, you can prepare an Italian-style sauce with cherry tomatoes, capers, and Taggiasca olives sautéed in a pan and served over the salmon.
