Orange Cake

The orange cake is a classic citrus-flavored dessert, ideal for breakfast or a fragrant snack. Here’s a simple recipe to prepare it.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 200 grams of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 ml of seed oil
  • Juice and zest of 2 untreated oranges
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until the mixture is frothy.
  3. Grate the zest of the oranges and squeeze the juice, taking care to remove the seeds.
  4. Add to the mixture of eggs and sugar the oil and orange juice, mixing well.
  5. Add the sifted flour along with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, continuing to mix until a homogeneous batter is obtained.
  6. Line a cake tin with parchment paper and pour the batter into it.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool before unmolding it.

If you want to add a special touch you can make a syrup with orange juice and sugar to pour over the cake once it’s cooked, or you can complete it with an orange glaze made with orange juice and icing sugar mixed until you get a smooth and fluid consistency.

Curiosities

The orange cake is a very versatile dessert: it can be enriched with the addition of dried fruit such as almonds or walnuts, or it can be accompanied by custard or a scoop of ice cream for a richer dessert. Moreover, it is a cake that lends itself well to the substitution of traditional flour with gluten-free flours, making it suitable for those on a gluten-free diet.
