Pandoro Star with Orange and Chocolate

The pandoro star with orange and chocolate is a delight that combines the sweetness of traditional pandoro with the fresh aroma of orange and the richness of chocolate. This can be a festive variant suitable for the Christmas period or simply to make a snack or the end of a meal more special. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 pandoro
  • 200 g of dark chocolate
  • 100 ml of cream for desserts
  • Grated zest of one orange
  • 1 packet of vanillin
  • A little orange liqueur (optional)
  • Icing sugar for decorating (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by cutting the pandoro into horizontal slices to obtain stars of different sizes.
  2. Chop the dark chocolate and place it into a heatproof bowl.
  3. Heat the cream in a saucepan until it is almost boiling, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Wait a minute, then stir until you get a smooth and homogeneous ganache.
  4. Add the grated zest of an orange, a packet of vanillin, and, if you wish, a little orange liqueur to the chocolate ganache, and mix well.
  5. Rebuild the pandoro by alternating layers of stars with a layer of orange ganache. If desired, you can also spread some ganache on the outside of the pandoro.
  6. If you like, decorate the top of the pandoro star with icing sugar to taste, to create a snowy effect.
  7. Let the pandoro star with orange and chocolate rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving, this allows the ganache to set and the flavors to blend together.

Enjoy your meal!

Curiosity

Pandoro, a typical dessert from the city of Verona, was patented in 1894 by the confectioner Melegatti, but its star shape was designed by the artist Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca. Its transformation into a tasty stuffed star with orange and chocolate is an example of Italian skill in creatively reinventing tradition.
