Orange and Chocolate Cake

The orange and chocolate cake is a delicious dessert that blends the freshness of citrus with the sweetness of chocolate. Here’s how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 ml of seed oil
  • 200 ml of fresh orange juice (about 2 oranges)
  • Grated zest of 1 orange
  • 300 g of all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 150 g of dark chocolate

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and prepare a cake pan by buttering and flouring it or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the seed oil, blending well.
  4. Mix in the orange juice and zest, stirring to get a homogeneous mixture.
  5. Add the sifted flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt, stirring gently to prevent lumps.
  6. Roughly chop the dark chocolate and add it to the mixture, reserving some chocolate for the final decoration.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for about 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the mold before unmolding.

Once cooled, you can decorate the cake with chocolate shavings or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Curiosity

The combination of orange and chocolate has ancient origins and is often associated with the tradition of Sicilian pastry, which utilizes local abundant citrus in classic recipes. Modica chocolate, for example, is famous for its orange-flavored variants.
