Cocoa and Milk Bundt Cake from the Past
17/11/2023The bundt cake is a classic of Italian baking, excellent for breakfast or a snack. Here is the recipe for preparing a delicious “old-fashioned” Cocoa and Milk Bundt Cake:
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 300 g of sugar
- 1 glass of milk
- 1 glass of seed oil
- 300 g of all-purpose flour
- 50 g of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 packet of baking powder for desserts
- 1 pinch of salt
- Powdered sugar (for decorating)
Preparation
-
Take a large bowl and start whipping the eggs with the sugar until you get a frothy and light mixture. You can use electric beaters or a food processor to simplify this step.
-
Add the milk and seed oil to the mixture of eggs and sugar, continuing to stir well to blend all the ingredients.
-
In another bowl, sift the flour with the unsweetened cocoa, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. This will help make the bundt cake softer and lump-free.
-
Gradually add the sifted dry ingredients to the liquid mixture, continuing to mix until they are completely incorporated.
-
Prepare a bundt cake mold by buttering and flouring it (or using a non-stick spray) so that the cake does not stick during baking.
-
Pour the mixture into the mold and level the surface with a spatula.
-
Bake the bundt cake in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 40 minutes. A grandmother’s secret advises to never open the oven during cooking, to prevent the cake from deflating.
-
Before taking the bundt cake out of the oven, do the toothpick test by inserting it into the center of the cake: if it comes out dry, the bundt cake is properly cooked.
-
Remove the bundt cake from the oven and let it cool completely before unmolding.
-
When the bundt cake is cold, you can dust it with powdered sugar to decorate.
Curiosity
The bundt cake is one of the most loved “grandmother’s” desserts in Italy and is often associated with childhood memories and family Sundays. Thanks to its simplicity and versatility, it lends itself to numerous variants: some add grated citrus peel, others a dash of liqueur or chocolate pieces to make it even more delicious. Over time, the bundt cake has been reinterpreted in many ways, but the traditional recipe remains always a great classic.
