Chocolate Salami Number

Chocolate salami is a no-bake dessert, very popular in Italy and simple to prepare. Here is the recipe with quantities for about 8-10 servings:

Ingredients

  • 200 g of dry biscuits (like Oro Saiwa or similar)
  • 150 g of butter at room temperature
  • 150 g of powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 150 g of dark chocolate
  • 50 g of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 100 g of chopped hazelnuts or almonds (optional)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Rum or other liquor to taste (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for decoration (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by roughly chopping the biscuits in a large bowl.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Mix the softened butter with powdered sugar until it becomes a smooth cream.
  4. Add egg yolks to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  5. Incorporate the melted chocolate into the cream mixture, then add the cocoa powder and a pinch of salt, mixing until smooth.
  6. Add the chopped biscuits (and the liquor if you decide to use it) to the chocolate mixture and mix well.
  7. If you want, you can also add the chopped hazelnuts or almonds at this point.
  8. Pour the mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper and shape it into a salami, rolling it up tightly and closing the ends.
  9. Let the chocolate salami firm up in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
  10. Before serving, dust with powdered sugar to give it the ‘salami’ effect.

Curiosity

Chocolate salami is not an ancient sweet but rather a relatively modern recipe that has spread to many countries with different variations, sometimes including the addition of dried fruit or candied fruit. Extending beyond Italian borders, it is known in Portugal as “Salame de chocolate” and is also popular in some regions of Greece. It’s a versatile and creative dessert where you can have fun experimenting with additional ingredients according to your personal tastes.
