Tiramisu with nougat

Tiramisu with nougat is a tasty variant of the classic Tiramisu, where the sweetness and crunchiness of the nougat are introduced, giving the dessert a new dimension of flavor and texture. Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 4 very fresh eggs
  • 100 g of granulated sugar
  • 500 g of mascarpone
  • 300 g of ladyfingers
  • 200 g of soft artisanal nougat
  • Espresso coffee as needed
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Begin by preparing the espresso coffee and let it cool down.
  2. Meanwhile, separate the yolks from the whites of the eggs.
  3. Whisk the yolks with the sugar in a bowl until the mixture is frothy and light in color.
  4. Add the mascarpone to the whipped yolks and gently mix until you get a smooth and uniform cream.
  5. In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until they are very firm.
  6. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone cream, trying not to deflate them, with slow upward movements from the bottom.
  7. Coarsely chop the nougat and set it aside.
  8. Begin assembling the Tiramisu: quickly dip the ladyfingers into the cold coffee and create a layer in the chosen baking dish.
  9. Spread a part of the mascarpone cream over and then sprinkle with chopped nougat.
  10. Repeat the layers, finishing with the mascarpone cream.
  11. Put the Tiramisu in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving.
  12. Before serving, dust the Tiramisu with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Curiosity

Tiramisu is one of the most famous Italian desserts in the world. Its origin is still the subject of disputes among various Italian regions that claim its creation. The addition of nougat is a variation that combines two very appreciated Italian confectionery traditions, especially during the Christmas holidays. Nougat, with its crunchy consistency and its flavor of honey and hazelnuts (or almonds), gives the Tiramisu a touch of originality and a pleasant contrast of textures.
