Mustard and Bacon Chicken Drumsticks

Here’s a recipe to prepare tasty Mustard and Bacon Chicken Drumsticks, with an Italian twist in the seasoning.

Ingredients

  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 100 g of sliced bacon
  • 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon of wholegrain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 sprig of fresh rosemary (or 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary)
  • 1/2 glass of white wine
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Prepare a marinade by mixing the two types of mustard with the extra virgin olive oil, finely chopped garlic, chopped rosemary (if fresh), and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  3. Brush the chicken drumsticks with the marinade, making sure it’s well distributed over the entire surface.
  4. Wrap each drumstick with one or two slices of bacon, depending on the size, making sure they adhere well.
  5. Arrange the chicken drumsticks in a baking dish and pour the white wine onto the bottom of the dish.
  6. Bake and let cook for about 45 minutes or until the chicken is well browned and crispy. During cooking, baste the drumsticks occasionally with the cooking juices.
  7. Once ready, take the chicken drumsticks out of the oven and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

For a more Italian touch, you could accompany them with a side dish of baked potatoes flavored with rosemary and sage.

Curiosity

The bacon wrapped around the chicken drumsticks not only adds flavor but also helps to keep the meat juicy during cooking. Mustard, a typical ingredient of French cuisine, pairs well with the strong taste of bacon, creating a very pleasant balance of flavors for the palate.
