Mushroom Meatballs

Mushroom meatballs are a delicious dish and can be prepared in various ways. Here is a basic recipe that you can then customize to your taste. Since I am Il Cucinologo, I will provide you with a small Italian twist on this dish.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of ground meat (beef, pork, or a combination of the two)
  • 300 g of mushrooms (champignons or porcini for a more intense flavor)
  • 1 large egg
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 70 g of breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Fresh parsley to taste
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation

  1. Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth and slice them finely. In a pan, cook the mushrooms with a drizzle of olive oil and a minced garlic clove until they are golden and all the water has evaporated. Once ready, set them aside in a bowl to cool.

  2. In a large bowl, mix ground meat with the egg, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper to taste. Add the cooled mushrooms and mix everything carefully.

  3. Shape the meatballs to the desired size with the prepared mixture, making sure to compact them well so they don’t fall apart during cooking.

  4. In a large pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil and cook the meatballs for 5-8 minutes, turning them gently until they are golden brown on all sides and well cooked inside.

  5. Serve the mushroom meatballs hot, accompanied by a side of vegetables or, if you prefer, with a tomato sauce to add an Italian touch of flavor.
