Mushroom Burger

I can provide you with a recipe for delicious mushroom burgers with an Italian twist. Here’s how to make tasty Italian-style mushroom burgers:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of champignon mushrooms (or other mushrooms of your choice)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
  • 100 g of breadcrumbs
  • 50 g of grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Hamburger buns
  • Toppings of choice (lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, ketchup, etc.)

Preparation

  1. Clean the mushrooms thoroughly with a damp cloth and chop them finely.
  2. Slice the onion and garlic finely and sauté them in a pan with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil until they become translucent.
  3. Add the chopped mushrooms to the pan and cook for about 5-10 minutes or until they have lost their water and begin to brown.
  4. Transfer the mushroom mixture to a bowl and let it cool slightly.
  5. Add the breadcrumbs, Parmigiano-Reggiano, chopped parsley, and egg to the bowl with the mushrooms. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Mix all the ingredients well until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  7. Form the mixture into burgers, creating slightly flattened patties.
  8. Heat a drizzle of oil in a non-stick pan and cook the mushroom burgers on both sides until they are golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  9. Meanwhile, toast the hamburger buns.
  10. Assemble the burgers by placing a mushroom burger between the two halves of the bun and adding the toppings you prefer.

Trivia

The mushroom burger is a tasty vegetarian alternative to the classic meat burgers. Originating from vegetarian and vegan cuisines, it lends itself to numerous variations and customizations. In this case, the addition of Parmesan and parsley draws on the flavors of Italian cuisine, adding a touch of taste and sophistication.
