Hot Milk Muffins

Hot milk muffins are soft and tasty treats that can be a delicious snack or an energizing breakfast. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 250 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 200 ml of whole milk
  • 150 grams of granulated sugar
  • 80 grams of butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 packet of baking powder (about 16 grams)
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (or the grated zest of a lemon for a more Italian touch)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (356 °F) and prepare a muffin pan by lining the molds with paper cups or by buttering and flouring them.
  2. In a small saucepan, warm the milk with the butter until the butter has completely melted. Let it cool down.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the egg with sugar until you have a frothy and light mixture. Add the vanilla extract or lemon zest.
  4. Sift the flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, then add it to the egg and sugar mixture alternating with the lukewarm milk and butter.
  5. Mix the ingredients with a spatula with gentle movements from the bottom up until you get a smooth and homogeneous batter.
  6. Fill the paper cups to about 2/3 of their capacity.
  7. Bake the muffins for about 20-25 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Let the muffins cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Curiosity

Hot milk muffins get their name from the use of warmed milk mixed with butter, which gives a special softness to the batter. The addition of vanilla or lemon infuses a delicious aroma that makes them irresistible at breakfast or as a snack.

Remember that the basic muffin recipe can be personalized with the addition of ingredients like chocolate chips, nuts, or pieces of fresh fruit for various flavor combinations.
