Mother-in-Law's Chocolate Cake

The Mother-in-Law’s Chocolate Cake is a tempting dessert that combines the goodness of chocolate with a unique consistency of the cake. Here’s how you can prepare it:

Ingredients

  • 200 g of dark chocolate
  • 200 g of butter
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 100 g of all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 sachet of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Take a cake pan and line it with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 180 °C so that it heats up while you prepare the batter.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave, making sure to stir it until it becomes smooth and homogeneous. Allow it to cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, cream the soft butter with the sugar until you obtain a frothy mixture.
  4. Separate the yolks from the whites. Whip the whites to stiff peaks with a pinch of salt.
  5. Add the yolks to the butter and sugar mixture and stir until well blended.
  6. Mix in the melted chocolate and stir again.
  7. Sift the flour with the baking powder and add it to the mixture gradually, folding gently from top to bottom to avoid deflating it.
  8. Finally, delicately fold in the whipped egg whites, trying to keep as much air in the batter as possible.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and level the surface.
  10. Bake the cake for about 30-35 minutes. Always do the toothpick test to make sure the cake is cooked properly: it should come out clean, but not dry, because the cake should remain moist inside.
  11. Take the cake out of the oven and let it cool before removing it from the pan.
