Milk-Free Cake

We can prepare a delicious cake even without using milk. Here is a basic recipe for a fluffy milk-free cake, ideal for those who are intolerant or on a vegan diet.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of type 00 flour
  • 200 g of granulated sugar
  • 80 ml of seed oil or other vegetable oil
  • 220 ml of water or a vegetable drink (such as soy, rice, almond beverage, etc.)
  • 1 packet of baking powder for sweets (about 16 g)
  • The grated zest of a lemon or an orange (for flavoring)
  • A pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sifted flour and baking powder, to prevent lumps.
  3. Add the sugar, a pinch of salt, and the grated zest of lemon or orange to give flavor.
  4. Pour the oil into the mixture and then gradually add water or the vegetable drink, stirring with a whisk or an electric beater until you obtain a smooth and lump-free batter.
  5. Butter and flour (or use parchment paper) a 20-24 cm diameter cake pan and pour the batter into it.
  6. Bake the cake in the already heated oven and let it cook for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  7. Once baked, take the cake out of the oven and let it cool before removing it from the mold.

Once cooled, you can dust your cake with powdered sugar or decorate it as you prefer.
