Melon stuffed with fruit and ice cream
17/11/2023Stuffed melon with fruit and ice cream is a fresh and colorful dessert, perfect for summer. Here’s how to prepare it.
Ingredients
- 1 ripe melon, preferably of the cantaloupe or netted variety
- Assorted fresh fruit (for example strawberries, kiwis, peaches, watermelon, pineapple)
- Cream or vanilla ice cream
- Fresh mint for decoration (optional)
- A small amount of sweet wine such as Moscato or Porto (optional)
Preparation
- Cut the melon in half horizontally and remove all the seeds with a spoon.
- If you wish, you can slightly scoop out the melon pulp to create more space for the fruit and ice cream, but make sure to leave enough pulp to maintain the shape and consistency of the melon “container”.
- Cut the selected fresh fruit into small pieces or fun shapes using cookie cutters if available.
- Alternately fill the two melon halves with the fruit slices and scoops of ice cream. If you want to add an extra touch, you can drizzle a little sweet wine over the fruit for an alcoholic note.
- Decorate with fresh mint leaves for a touch of freshness and color.
- Put in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving, so that the ice cream remains cool and the fruit can slightly marinate.
Curiosity
The stuffed melon can become the base for countless variations, for example, replacing the ice cream with sorbet for a lighter version, or adding chopped chocolate or nuts for a crunchy note. In Italy, seasonal fruit is always the best choice to ensure freshness and intense flavors. Enjoy your meal!
