Ingredients
- All-purpose flour, 300 g
- Sugar, 150 g
- Eggs, 3
- Melted butter, 130 g
- Milk, 100 ml
- Apples, 2 (better if Renetta or Golden type)
- Oranges, 2
- Baking powder for sweets, 1 sachet
- Powdered sugar, to taste
- Salt, a pinch
Preparation
- Start by preheating the oven to 180 °C.
- Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into small pieces. Set aside.
- Wash the oranges thoroughly, grate the zest, and then squeeze the juice. Strain the juice to remove any seeds and excess pulp.
- In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar until you have a frothy and light mixture.
- Add the now lukewarm melted butter to the egg and sugar mixture and continue to stir.
- Slowly incorporate the milk, then add the grated orange zest and finally the juice.
- Gradually blend in the sifted flour with the baking powder, making sure not to form lumps, and mix until the batter is smooth.
- Add the chopped apples and a pinch of salt, stirring gently to distribute evenly throughout the batter.
- Pour the mixture into a previously buttered and floured baking pan (or lined with parchment paper).
- Bake the cake in the already hot oven and let it cook for about 40 minutes or until golden brown on top. To check if it’s done, you can perform the skewer test.
- Once baked, let the melarancia cake cool before unmolding it.
- If you wish, before serving, you can sprinkle the surface with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness and refinement.
