Lentil Burger
17/11/2023Lentil burgers are an excellent plant-based alternative to classic meat burgers. Here you find a simple and tasty recipe:
Ingredients
- 250 g of lentils (better if already cooked)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 clove of garlic, chopped
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Breadcrumbs or flour, as needed for binding
- Extra virgin olive oil for cooking
Preparation
-
If you have purchased dry lentils, rinse and cook them in boiling water until tender, then drain well.
-
In a frying pan, sauté the onion and garlic in oil until they become translucent. Add the grated carrot and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
-
In a large bowl, mash the lentils with a fork or use a food processor to get a coarse mixture.
-
Add the sautéed onion, garlic, and carrot, tomato paste, smoked paprika, and cumin to the lentil mixture. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
-
Add breadcrumbs or flour a little at a time until the mixture is compact enough to form burgers.
-
Shape the burgers with your hands, then let them rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
-
Heat some oil in a non-stick pan and cook the burgers for about 4-5 minutes per side, until they are golden and crispy.
Serve the lentil burgers on a bun with classic toppings like lettuce, tomato, sauces, or as you prefer. They are also perfect on their own with a salad or grilled vegetables. Enjoy your meal!
