Ingredients

  • 250 g of ladyfingers
  • 500 ml of sweetened and cold coffee
  • 250 g of mascarpone
  • 150 g of powdered sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for garnish
  • Dark chocolate shavings

Preparation

  1. Start by preparing the coffee, sweeten it to taste and let it cool.
  2. Now prepare the mascarpone cream: separate the yolks from the whites of the eggs. In a bowl, whisk the yolks with the powdered sugar until you get a light and fluffy mixture.
  3. Add the mascarpone to the mixture of yolks and sugar and mix gently until you obtain a smooth and homogeneous cream.
  4. In another bowl, whip the whites until they are firm and fold them gently into the mascarpone cream so as not to deflate them, using a spatula and upwards movements.
  5. Quickly dip the ladyfingers in the cold coffee and lay them out on the serving plate to create the base of your baita. You can choose the shape: rectangular, circular, or even layered for a “cottage” effect.
  6. Spread an even layer of mascarpone cream over the first layer of ladyfingers, and if you wish more layers, repeat the operation.
  7. After completing the structure, dust the surface with the unsweetened cocoa and decorate with chocolate shavings to simulate a snowy roof.
  8. Let your baita di savoiardi rest in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving, so that the flavors can blend well and the ladyfingers take on the right texture.

The baita di savoiardi is a variant of the more famous tiramisu and is perfect to conclude a meal with friends. You can garnish the dessert with other decorative elements such as sugar stars, for an even more wintery and festive effect.
