Jam Roll

The jam roll is a classic and enjoyable dessert, perfect for breakfast or a snack. Here is the recipe to prepare a delicious roll with jam.

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 100 g of all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet of vanillin or a teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (for decorating)
  • Jam of choice (about 200-300 g)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. Separate the yolks from the whites. Beat the egg whites until stiff with a pinch of salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the yolks with the sugar until they become frothy and light, then add the vanillin or vanilla extract.
  4. Gently fold the sifted flour into the yolks, mixing with movements from the bottom upwards so as not to deflate the mixture.
  5. Incorporate the beaten egg whites, mixing always gently.
  6. Pour the mixture onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leveling it so that it is uniform.
  7. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the surface becomes golden brown and the cake passes the toothpick test.
  8. Take the sponge cake out of the oven and turn it onto a damp kitchen towel. Gently remove the parchment paper.
  9. Spread your chosen jam over the surface of the sponge cake.
  10. Roll the cake up using the kitchen towel, then wrap it in the same towel.
  11. Let it cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar.

Note: it is important that the sponge cake is rolled while still hot to prevent it from breaking during the rolling phase.
