Hot Milk Cake

The Hot Milk Cake is a soft and light dessert, much loved for its simplicity and delicate flavor. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 1 packet of vanillin or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 300 g of flour
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 250 ml of milk
  • 50 g of butter

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (350 degrees F).
  2. In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until it is light and fluffy. Add the vanillin or vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder.
  4. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients (flour and baking powder) into the egg and sugar mixture, mixing gently to not deflate the mixture.
  5. Heat the milk with the butter until the butter has completely melted and the milk is hot (be careful not to boil it).
  6. Slowly incorporate the hot milk into the batter, continuing to mix gently until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
  7. Pour the mixture into a buttered and floured pan, or lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool before unmolding and, if desired, dust it with powdered sugar before serving.

Curiosity

This cake gets its name from the particular method of heating the milk before adding it to the batter, which makes the dessert especially soft and moist. It is a versatile dessert that can be customized by adding grated lemon or orange zest, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts. Sometimes, it is served with a glaze or accompanied by jam or custard. Enjoy your meal!
