Egg burger
17/11/2023I can offer you an Italian version of the egg burger recipe, with a Mediterranean twist. In this version, we will include fresh tomatoes and basil to give a taste that somewhat reminds of a Caprese salad.
Ingredients
- 2 hamburger buns
- 200g of ground beef
- 2 eggs
- 4 slices of tomato
- Some fresh basil leaves
- 2 slices of mozzarella (or cheddar cheese, if you prefer)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Extra virgin olive oil to taste
- Dressing of choice (mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, etc.)
Preparation
- Divide the ground meat into two equal portions and form two hamburgers. Season with salt and pepper.
- Heat a pan or grill over medium-high heat and cook the hamburgers for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the desired doneness is reached.
- While the burgers are cooking, cook the sunny-side up eggs in another pan. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cut the buns in half and toast them lightly in the pan or on the grill.
- On the bottom half of each bun, add a basil leaf, followed by slices of tomato and mozzarella or cheese of choice.
- Once the meat is cooked, place it on top of the cheese to help melt it.
- Then, gently lay the egg on top of each hamburger.
- Add an additional basil leaf on top of each egg and, if you like, drizzle with some extra virgin olive oil.
- Close with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
If you have any food intolerances or preferences, I can suggest alternatives for the meat, bread, or cheese. In addition, you can customize your burger with other ingredients you love, such as caramelized onions, lettuce, or sauces of your liking.
Curiosity
The Egg burger is not traditionally Italian, but with the addition of fresh ingredients like tomato, basil, and olive oil, we have created a variant that reflects the flavors of Italian cuisine. Hamburgers with eggs are popular in many parts of the world, often as comfort food or for a hearty breakfast.
