Prosciutto Croquettes

Prosciutto croquettes are a delicious and crunchy appetizer that can delight the palate. Here’s the recipe to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 150 g of chopped cooked ham
  • 200 g of potatoes
  • 50 g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Breadcrumbs as needed
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt and pepper as needed
  • Nutmeg (optional)
  • Flour as needed for breading

Preparation

  1. Start by cooking the potatoes in boiling salted water until they are well done. Drain them, peel them and mash them with a potato masher until you get a puree.
  2. Add the chopped cooked ham, Parmesan, a pinch of salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste to the potato puree. Mix until you have a homogeneous mixture.
  3. Let the mixture cool down and then form small croquettes with your hands. Coat them first in flour, then in the beaten egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs, making sure they are well covered.
  4. Heat plenty of oil in a skillet and fry the croquettes until they become golden and crispy on all sides.
  5. Drain them and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. Serve hot as an appetizer or as a snack.

Trivia

Croquettes lend themselves to a variety of variations. For example, if you want to add an extra Italian touch, you can add some diced mozzarella inside each croquette for a cheesy pull when bitten. Or, for a more rustic version, use prosciutto crudo for a stronger flavor.
