Gratin Chicken Strips and Peppers

Gratin chicken strips with peppers are a colorful and tasty dish, perfect for a delicious dinner. Here’s how to prepare them:

Ingredients

  • 400 g of chicken breast
  • 2 peppers (1 red and 1 yellow to add color to the dish)
  • 150 g of grated cheese (such as Parmesan or Pecorino)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Oregano or aromatic herbs to taste
  • Breadcrumbs, to taste (optional for a crispier effect)

Preparation

  1. Start by washing and cutting the peppers into strips or small squares, as you prefer.
  2. In a large pan, heat two tablespoons of oil and lightly fry the peeled garlic clove.
  3. Add the peppers, salt and pepper them, and let them cook over medium-low heat with the lid on until they are soft enough, about 15-20 minutes. If you wish, you can add a little water or vegetable broth to keep them from sticking.
  4. Meanwhile, cut the chicken breast into strips, season with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of oil.
  5. When the peppers are ready, transfer them to an oven-safe dish and add the raw chicken pieces on top.
  6. Sprinkle the entire surface with the grated cheese and, if you desire, with some breadcrumbs for an even crispier gratin.
  7. Bake the peppers and chicken in a preheated oven at 200 °C (390 °F) for 15-20 minutes or until the surface is golden brown and the peppers are au gratin.
  8. Once cooked, serve the gratin chicken strips and peppers hot, perhaps sprinkled with oregano or your favorite aromatic herbs for an extra aroma.

This dish can be served with a side of white rice or a fresh salad.

Curiosity

Peppers are very versatile vegetables in the kitchen and when grilled with cheese, they acquire a pleasant texture that pairs perfectly with chicken. Additionally, peppers are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants that are very good for health.
