Wurstel Puff Pastry Wreath

The Wurstel Puff Pastry Wreath is a fun and appetizing idea, perfect for parties, especially if you have children among the guests, or for a casual aperitif.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
  • 10 sausages (chicken or pork, depending on preference)
  • 1 egg yolk for brushing
  • Sesame or poppy seeds for decoration
  • Ketchup, mustard, or any sauce of choice for serving

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
  2. Unroll the puff pastry and cut it into long, thin strips.
  3. Wrap each sausage with a strip of puff pastry, leaving a little space between each spiral to allow the pastry to puff up during baking.
  4. Form a circle on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, arranging the sausage-wrapped pastry so that the sides touch, creating the shape of a wreath.
  5. Beat the egg yolk and gently brush the pastries.
  6. Sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds over the pastries for decoration.
  7. Bake the wreath in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and well cooked.
  8. Serve the wurstel puff pastry wreath hot, accompanied by ketchup, mustard, or your favorite sauce.

Did You Know?

This recipe can be customized in many ways. You can add some grated cheese or herbs to the puff pastry strips before wrapping the sausages to add more flavor. Moreover, if preferred, you can use spicy sausages instead of the traditional wurstel for a variant with a touch of heat.
