Pan-fried Friggitelli

Friggitelli are small sweet green peppers typical of Italian cuisine, highly appreciated for their delicate flavor. Here’s how you can prepare them in a pan:

Ingredients

  • Fresh friggitelli (quantity as desired)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper (optional)

Preparation

  1. Wash the friggitelli under running water and dry them well.
  2. If you prefer, you can remove the stalk and the inner seeds, but it is customary to cook them whole.
  3. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium-high heat and add the peeled garlic clove to flavor the oil.
  4. When the garlic is golden, remove it and add the friggitelli to the pan. Let them cook, stirring occasionally, until they are soft but still slightly crunchy. This will take about 10-15 minutes depending on the size of the friggitelli.
  5. During cooking, add salt and, if you like, a sprinkle of black pepper.
  6. Once cooked, serve them immediately as a side dish.

Curiosity

Friggitelli are a variety of peppers originating from Spain and are also known as Sigaretta peppers for their elongated and slender shape. They are very versatile in the kitchen and can also be stuffed or preserved in oil.

Tip for an extra Italian touch: try sprinkling the friggitelli with a little grated Pecorino Romano or Parmesan before serving. It will be a delight!
