Fried Mushrooms

Fried mushrooms are a simple and delicious dish, perfect as an appetizer or side. Here is the recipe with an Italian twist in preparing them in batter.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of fresh mushrooms (such as champignons or porcini)
  • 100 g of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 ml of milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (preferably olive for a more Italian touch)
  • (Optional) A sprinkle of chopped parsley for garnish

Preparation

  1. Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth or a brush to remove any soil residues. Cut the mushrooms into slices not too thin if they’re champignons, or leave them whole if they’re small.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour with the milk, eggs, a pinch of salt, and pepper until you have a smooth, lump-free batter.
  3. Dip the mushrooms in the batter, making sure they are completely covered.
  4. Heat plenty of oil in a pan and, when hot, fry the mushrooms dipped in batter until they are golden on both sides.
  5. Once cooked, remove them with a slotted spoon and lay them on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
  6. (Optional) Sprinkle the fried mushrooms with a bit of chopped parsley for a touch of color and freshness before serving.

Trivia

The dish of fried mushrooms is enjoyed in many cultures, with variations in batter and types of mushrooms used. In Italy, batter-fried mushrooms are a classic of home cooking, especially during the autumn season when mushrooms are more plentiful.

Remember to handle mushrooms with care, especially if you are not an expert, as some varieties can be poisonous. It’s always better to rely on controlled products or expert pickings.
