Yogurt Fried Chicken Strips

Yogurt fried chicken strips are a tasty and creamy variant of the classic fried chicken. Here’s how to prepare them the Italian way:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of chicken breast
  • 200 g of Greek or natural yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Flour, as needed for breading
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Start by cutting the chicken breast into strips, not too small.

  2. In a large bowl, mix the yogurt with salt, black pepper, finely chopped garlic, and the juice of the lemon.

  3. Dip the chicken strips in the yogurt marinade, ensuring they are well covered. Let them rest for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator to absorb the flavors.

  4. After marinating, drain the chicken strips from the excess yogurt and dredge them in flour, making sure the coating adheres well.

  5. Heat the seed oil in a suitable frying pan. When the oil has reached the ideal temperature (about 180 °C), start frying the chicken strips until they become golden and crispy.

  6. As they are ready, transfer the strips onto paper towels to remove the excess oil.

  7. Serve hot, accompanied if you like, by a sauce made with additional yogurt, chopped fresh herbs, and a pinch of salt.

Curiosity

This dish combines the tradition of fried chicken with the creaminess typical of Mediterranean dishes, thanks to the use of yogurt. In Italy, you might find a variant of this recipe that adds aromatic herbs to the marinade, such as rosemary or oregano, or that involves the use of grated Parmesan cheese in the breading for an extra Italian touch.
