Spianatine with Apples and Speck
17/11/2023The spianatine with apples and speck are a delicious dish that combines the sweet taste of apples with the saltiness of speck for a truly interesting result. Here’s how to prepare them:
Ingredients
- 4 spianatine or flatbreads
- 2 apples
- 150 g of thinly sliced speck
- 200 g of soft spreadable cheese (such as stracchino or robiola)
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Arugula (optional)
- Balsamic vinegar (optional)
Preparation
- Start by washing and drying the apples. Then, remove the core and slice them thinly. If you prefer, you can also peel them before slicing.
- Take a non-stick pan and heat it over medium heat. Lay a spianatina in the pan and let it warm up for about a minute on each side. Repeat this process for all the spianatine you plan to prepare.
- Once warmed, spread the soft cheese evenly on one half of each spianatina.
- On top of the spreadable cheese, arrange the slices of speck and apple slices. You may add a pinch of salt and pepper to season the apples.
- At this point, you can fold the spianatina over on itself, closing it like a book, or leave it open, according to your preference.
- If you wish, you can give the folded spianatina an additional toasting in the pan, to make the speck crunchier and the cheese even softer.
- As a final touch, if you like, you can add some fresh arugula and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.
The spianatine with apples and speck are ready to serve, great as a main dish or as an appetizer. The combination of sweet and salty will be a pleasant surprise for the palate.
Curiosity
In Trentino-Alto Adige, the region where speck originates, it is common to find apple-speck combinations in different culinary preparations, as both are typical products of this area of Italy. This pairing is perfect together thanks to the contrast of flavors that is created between the fruit and the cured meat.
