Fish Sticks

Here’s the recipe for fish sticks, breaded and fried fish fillets.

Ingredients

  • 400 g of white fish fillets (for example, cod or plaice)
  • 100 g of flour
  • 100 g of breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or olive)

Preparation

  1. Start by cleaning the cod or plaice fillets, being careful to remove all the bones. Dry the fillets well. If you are working with a whole fish, make sure to thoroughly remove all bones after filleting the fish. Cut the fillets into strips of the desired size.
  2. Take three deep plates: put the flour in one, beat the eggs with salt and pepper in another, and pour the breadcrumbs into the third.
  3. Dip each piece of fish first into the flour, making sure it’s well coated. Shake off the excess.
  4. Next, immerse the floured fish into the beaten eggs, ensuring the liquid adheres well on all sides.
  5. Finally, coat the fish with breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan until it reaches a medium-high temperature.
  7. Fry the fish sticks in the hot oil until they are golden on all sides. This should take about 4-5 minutes depending on the thickness of the sticks.
  8. Remove the fish sticks from the oil and let them drain on paper towels to remove the excess oil.

Enjoy them hot, maybe with a squeeze of lemon or serve them with homemade tartar sauce or mayonnaise.
