Stuffed pancarré baskets

The stuffed pancarré baskets are a tasty and very easy appetizer to prepare. You can fill them with a variety of ingredients according to taste, but here I propose a classic version with ham and cheese.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of pancarré
  • 4 slices of cooked ham
  • 4 slices of cheese (such as mozzarella or provola)
  • Butter to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chives or parsley, chopped, for garnishing (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  2. With the help of a rolling pin, flatten the pancarré slices until thin.
  3. Lightly butter each slice of pancarré on one side.
  4. Line each muffin mold or pastry ring with a slice of pancarré, buttered side facing out.
  5. Cut the cooked ham and cheese into small pieces or strips, and insert them into the pancarré baskets.
  6. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Bake in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the baskets are golden and crispy.
  8. Remove the baskets from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before removing from the molds.
  9. Garnish with some chopped chives or parsley to add a touch of color and freshness.

This is a very simple base, but you can customize the baskets with other ingredients, such as diced tomatoes, olives, sliced mushrooms, grilled vegetable pieces, or any other ingredient you like.

Curiosity

The baskets are suitable to become a culinary “canvas” where you can have fun with combinations. In Italy, especially during parties or buffets, these small delights are often found because they represent a practical and at the same time elegant solution for serving finger food that always conquers all palates.
