Omelette

The omelette is a quick and versatile dish that lends itself to multiple variations. Here is a basic recipe to which you can add the ingredients you prefer.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Butter or olive oil, for greasing the pan

Preparation

  1. Crack the eggs into a bowl and beat them well with a fork or a whisk. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a bit of butter or oil to grease the bottom.
  3. Pour the egg mixture into the hot pan and let it cook for a few minutes, until the bottom starts to set.
  4. With a spatula, gently lift the edges of the omelette and tilt the pan to let the liquid run underneath the cooked omelette.
  5. When the omelette is almost cooked but still slightly creamy on top, you can add any additional ingredients you wish (cheese, aromatic herbs, sautéed vegetables, ham, etc.).
  6. Fold it in half or roll it up and let it cook for a brief moment longer before transferring it to a plate.

Curiosity

The omelette, although considered a classic of French cuisine, has ancient origins and it is believed that its variants were already present in Roman kitchens. In Italy, it is customary to enrich it with typical ingredients such as mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil for a Mediterranean touch.
