Easter Egg-Shaped Biscuit Box
17/11/2023The Easter egg-shaped biscuit box, also known as a “little box” or “basket” for Easter, can be a delicious and decorative way to present treats or chocolates during the Easter holidays. Here is the recipe to make them:
Ingredients
- 250 g of type 00 flour
- 125 g of butter at room temperature
- 125 g of powdered sugar
- 1 whole egg
- 1 egg yolk
- Grated zest of 1 lemon (untreated)
- 1 pinch of salt
- Dark chocolate for decoration
- Sprinkles or sugar granules for decoration
Preparation
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour and powdered sugar.
- Add the butter chopped into small pieces and begin to work the ingredients with your fingertips to obtain a sandy mixture.
- Make a well with the flour mixture and in the center add the whole egg, egg yolk, grated lemon zest, and pinch of salt.
- Knead quickly to obtain a smooth and homogeneous dough. Form a ball, wrap it in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of about 3-4 mm.
- Use an egg-shaped mold to cut out two shapes for each box you wish to create.
- On one of the two egg shapes, gently carve and remove a smaller portion, which will serve as the “window” of the box.
- Place the shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until golden.
- Let the biscuits cool on a wire rack.
- Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or microwave.
- Once the biscuit has cooled, use the melted dark chocolate to “glue” the edges of two shapes (one full and one with the window) to create the box. Decorate the edges with sprinkles or sugar granules for a more festive effect.
- Allow the chocolate to solidify before handling the boxes.
You can fill the box with chocolates, candies, or small chocolate eggs. This particular type of biscuit can become an original gift idea or a decorative element for Easter tables.
