Egg-Free Chocolate Mousse

Egg-free chocolate mousse is a lighter variant of the classic mousse, but just as delicious. Here’s how to prepare it:

Ingredients

  • 200 g of good quality dark chocolate
  • 240 ml of fresh cream to whip
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)

Preparation

  1. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place it in a heat-resistant bowl.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave, being careful not to burn it. If using the microwave, heat the chocolate in 20-30 second intervals, stirring in between until it’s completely melted.
  3. Once melted, remove the chocolate from heat and let it cool until it is lukewarm to the touch.
  4. Meanwhile, whip the fresh cream with powdered sugar (if using) until soft peaks form. Adding powdered sugar will make the whipped cream slightly sweeter and more stable, but you can omit it if you prefer.
  5. When the chocolate is lukewarm, add the vanilla extract and then gently fold in a third of the whipped cream, stirring from top to bottom to avoid deflating the mixture.
  6. Add the rest of the whipped cream in two parts, continuing to mix gently until you have a smooth mixture.
  7. Pour the mousse into small glasses or cups and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving, so that it sets well.

The egg-free chocolate mousse is now ready to be enjoyed. If you like, you can garnish with chocolate shavings, fresh fruit, or a dusting of cocoa powder before serving. Enjoy your meal!
