Ingredients
- 200 g of all-purpose flour
- 150 g of sugar
- 100 g of soft butter
- 120 ml of whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 sachet of baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Grated zest of 1 lemon (for an Italian touch)
- For the icing:
- 200 g of powdered sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons of water or lemon juice
- Decorations: Colored sprinkles, chocolate, chopped nuts, etc.
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C and butter and flour a large donut-shaped cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream the soft butter with the sugar until the mixture is fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, fully incorporating each before adding the next.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and grated lemon zest to flavor the batter.
- In another container, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level it with a spatula.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely before unmolding.
- To prepare the icing, mix the powdered sugar with water or lemon juice until you achieve a smooth consistency thick enough to cover the cake without running too much.
- Pour the icing over the cooled cake and decorate with colored sprinkles or other decorative elements as desired.
