Ciambella
17/11/2023The ciambella, or ciambellone, is a classic, soft and delicious cake, perfect for breakfast or a snack. Here is a basic recipe for preparing a classic Italian ciambella.
Ingredients
- 300 g of flour 00
- 200 g of sugar
- 100 g of melted butter or seed oil
- 4 eggs
- 1 packet of baking powder
- Grated zest of one lemon
- A pinch of salt
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- In a bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until you have a frothy and light mixture.
- Add the melted butter or seed oil and continue to mix.
- Gently incorporate the sifted flour, baking powder, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt, stirring gently so as not to deflate the mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a previously buttered and floured ciambella mould.
- Bake the ciambella for about 35-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the ciambella cool in the mold for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack and allow it to cool completely before serving.

The ciambella has ancient origins and numerous variations throughout Italy. Some versions include the addition of dried fruit, such as walnuts or almonds, or vanilla flavoring to enhance the taste. In some traditional recipes, ricotta is also used to make the dough even softer and moister.
