Dentiere

“Dentiere” are a very fun and amusing dessert, often appreciated by children for their form which indeed resembles dentures. They are prepared with apples and almond paste, or in a simpler version, with apples and chewing gum. Here I propose the more traditional and homemade version, with almond paste.

Ingredients

  • 2 red apples
  • 100 g of almond paste (marzipan)
  • Lemon juice
  • Icing sugar (optional)

Preparation

  1. Wash the apples and cut them in half, removing the core with a corer or a sharp knife.
  2. Sprinkle the apple halves with lemon juice to prevent them from oxidizing and losing their bright color.
  3. Roll out the almond paste with a rolling pin on a lightly floured surface until about 3-4 millimeters thick.
  4. Cut the almond paste into strips the width of the apple seeds, which will serve as “little teeth”.
  5. Gently insert the strips of almond paste into the grooves left by the core in the apples to simulate the effect of teeth.
  6. If desired, for an extra touch, you can dust with icing sugar to give the appearance of more realistic dentures.

The apple dentures are ready to be served! They are excellent as a fun snack or as a decorative element for themed parties. Remember, as a dessert that uses fresh apples, it’s best to prepare them just before serving, to maintain the freshness of the fruit.

Curiosity

This type of preparation is often used on the occasion of Halloween or themed parties, to add a touch of originality and fun to the table. Furthermore, dentures are a delicious way to promote fruit consumption, especially among the little ones.
