Simple Decorated Biscuits
17/11/2023Simple decorated biscuits are a great choice for a customizable and fun dessert. Here’s how to prepare them with a bit of an Italian twist.
Ingredients
- 250 grams of all-purpose flour
- 125 grams of sugar
- 125 grams of butter at room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 1 pinch of salt
- Flavor of choice (vanilla, lemon or orange zest)
- Royal icing or sugar paste for decorating
- Food coloring (if desired)
Preparation
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with the sugar until you have a creamy mixture.
- Add the egg and continue to work the mixture.
- Incorporate the sifted flour with a pinch of salt and the chosen flavor until you have a smooth and homogeneous dough.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 5 mm, then use cookie cutters to cut the dough into the desired shapes.
- Arrange the biscuits on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, making sure to leave a bit of space between each one.
- Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges start to golden slightly.
- Allow the biscuits to cool completely before proceeding with the decoration.
To decorate the biscuits, you can prepare royal icing by whisking egg white with powdered sugar and a few drops of lemon juice until you have a consistency suitable for decorating. You can then divide it into multiple containers and color it with food coloring. Use a pastry bag with a thin nozzle to decorate the biscuits with the icing, paying attention to the details.
If you prefer, you can also use rolled out sugar paste cut into the same shapes as the biscuits to cover them, and then add additional decorations in royal icing.
Once decorated, let the icing dry completely before serving them. These biscuits are perfect for any occasion and can be customized to suit any theme or festivity.
Happy decorating and, above all, enjoy your meal!
