Crispy Edamer

I can suggest how to make crispy Edamer cheese wedges, a variation of a very popular snack that may remind you of breaded and fried mozzarella sticks. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 200 g of Edamer cheese
  • 100 g of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 200 g of breadcrumbs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Cut the Edamer into sticks or wedges, depending on your preference.
  2. Prepare three deep plates: in the first put the flour, in the second beat the eggs with a pinch of salt and pepper, and in the third put the breadcrumbs.
  3. Coat each Edamer wedge first in the flour, then in the egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs. Make sure it is well covered to create a crispy crust.
  4. Set the breaded wedges aside and let them rest for 5-10 minutes, so the breading sets better.
  5. Meanwhile, heat a generous amount of oil in a deep pan or a deep fryer to about 175 °C.
  6. Fry the Edamer wedges until they are golden and crispy. This should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve immediately to enjoy their crispiness.

Interesting Fact

Edamer, originating from the Netherlands, is a cheese with an elastic texture and a slightly nutty flavor, making it suitable for frying. It can be served with sauces such as tomato, mayonnaise, or spicy to add an extra touch of taste.
