Cream Biscuits

Cream biscuits are simple to prepare and perfect to accompany tea or coffee. Here is the recipe for you:

Ingredients

  • 500 g of all-purpose flour
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 200 g of fresh cream
  • 1 egg
  • The grated zest of 1 lemon (to taste)
  • 1 packet of vanillin or the seeds from half a vanilla bean
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1/2 packet of baking powder

Preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sifted flour with the sugar, a pinch of salt, vanillin, and baking powder.
  2. Add the grated lemon zest for a touch of freshness and aroma.
  3. Pour in the fresh cream and egg and begin to work all the ingredients together until you have a smooth and homogeneous dough. If the dough is too soft, you can add a little flour, but be careful not to dry out the biscuits too much.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the fridge for about 30 minutes. This step helps make the dough more manageable.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180 °C.
  6. Take the dough and, on a floured surface, roll it out with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 5 mm.
  7. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into the desired shapes.
  8. Arrange the biscuits on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.
  9. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden.
  10. Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool on a rack before serving.

Curiosity

Cream in the biscuit dough adds a note of richness and softness that makes them particularly indulgent. These biscuits are great on their own, but if you want to make them even more special, you can pair them with a chocolate ganache or stuff them with a flavored buttercream. Don’t forget, for an extra touch, to dust them with powdered sugar once cooled.
