Puff Pastry Cones with Beef Strips and Crispy Vegetables

This dish offers a mix of flavors and textures that make the tasting a truly enjoyable experience. Here’s how to prepare puff pastry cones with beef strips and crispy vegetables, with a very Italian touch.

Ingredients

  • 300 g of beef fillet
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • A clove of garlic
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 red pepper
  • Ready-made or homemade puff pastry
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Sesame or poppy seeds to garnish

Preparation

  1. Prepare the puff pastry by cutting triangles and rolling them on already oiled pastry cones. Brush the cones with beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds for a crispy touch. Bake the cones in the oven at 200 °C for about 10-15 minutes or until golden. Let cool and unmold carefully.
  2. Clean the beef fillet by removing any fat and cut it into strips. Season the meat pieces with salt and pepper.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the oil with the crushed garlic clove and rosemary sprigs, then brown the beef strips to the desired doneness, then remove them and keep them warm.
  4. Wash and cut the vegetables into julienned strips, keeping the colors separate. In the same skillet used for the meat, quickly sauté the vegetables with a drizzle of oil, lightly salting them. They should remain crispy.
  5. Assemble the dish by placing a puff pastry cone in the center and filling it with beef strips and crispy vegetables. If desired, garnish with a small rosemary leaf as a final touch.

Curiosity

This dish is an example of how Italian cuisine can reinvent itself by presenting traditional elements, such as beef and puff pastry, in unusual shapes and combinations. The crispiness of the pastry and vegetables nicely contrasts with the tenderness of the meat, creating a balance of textures that is much appreciated.
