Coffee Puff Pastries

Coffee puff pastries are a tasty and easy-to-prepare dessert, perfect to accompany a coffee break. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 1 roll of rectangular puff pastry
  • Powdered sugar (to taste)
  • 1 egg (for brushing)
  • Sugar nibs (optional)

For the coffee filling:

  • 250 g of mascarpone
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of instant coffee (dissolved in a bit of hot water)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C if fan-assisted).
  2. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into squares or rectangles, as desired.
  3. Place the puff pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. In a bowl, mix the mascarpone with the powdered sugar and the dissolved instant coffee, stirring until you have a homogeneous mixture.
  5. Brush the edges of the puff pastry squares with the beaten egg.
  6. Place some of the coffee filling in the center of each square.
  7. Fold each puff pastry square over itself to form a triangle, or if you prefer, layer another square on top, pressing the edges lightly to seal them.
  8. Brush the top of the pastries with the remaining egg and sprinkle with sugar nibs if you like.
  9. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Cool on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar.

Italian Variation:

If you want to give an even more Italian touch to this recipe, you could add a sprinkle of unsweetened cocoa to the filling or use espresso coffee instead of instant. Moreover, for those who love strong flavors, adding some coffee liqueur to the filling might be just the thing for you.

Serve these delicious puff pastries as a dessert after a meal or pair them with a good espresso for a truly special break. Enjoy your meal!
