Coffee Panna Cotta

Coffee panna cotta is a creamy and refined dessert. Here is the recipe to prepare this delicious sweet.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml of fresh liquid cream
  • 100 g of granulated sugar
  • 2 sheets of gelatin (or 5 g of powdered gelatin)
  • 2 small cups of very strong espresso coffee (about 60 ml)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for decorating (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by soaking the gelatin sheets in a bowl of cold water to soften them (about 10 minutes). If you are using powdered gelatin, it should be dissolved in 2 tablespoons of cold water and left to rest for a few minutes.
  2. In the meantime, pour the cream into a saucepan, add the sugar, and bring almost to a boil over medium heat, stirring well to dissolve the sugar.
  3. When the cream is almost boiling, turn off the heat and add the espresso coffee.
  4. Squeeze out the softened gelatin and add it to the hot cream (or, if you are using powdered gelatin, heat it separately until it dissolves and then add it), stirring until it has completely dissolved.
  5. Pour the mixture through a strainer into individual molds or a single container, depending on preference.
  6. Let cool to room temperature, then place the molds in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until the panna cotta has set.
  7. To serve, briefly dip the molds in hot water and invert onto a plate. If desired, sprinkle with a little unsweetened cocoa.

Curiosity

Panna cotta, which literally means “cooked cream,” is a Piedmontese dessert that has spread across Italy and the world. With the addition of coffee, it becomes a tasty variation that combines the creaminess of the cream with the strength of the coffee. It is possible to personalize the dessert by adding a chocolate or caramel sauce, or by serving it with crumbled dry biscuits or hazelnut grains for a crunchy touch.

I wish you an excellent Italian dessert!
