Coffee Delights

Coffee Delights are an irresistible dessert, perfect for those who love the intense flavors of coffee. Here’s how to make them.

Ingredients

  • 250 g of ladyfingers
  • 250 ml of espresso coffee
  • 250 g of mascarpone cheese
  • 100 g of powdered sugar
  • 3 eggs (with whites and yolks separated)
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Fresh cream (optional)

Preparation

  1. Prepare the espresso coffee and let it cool.
  2. Carefully separate the egg whites from the yolks. Make sure there are no traces of yolk in the whites before you whisk them into stiff peaks.
  3. In a bowl, work the yolks with the powdered sugar until you have a light and foamy mixture.
  4. Add the mascarpone to the yolks and mix until smooth and homogeneous.
  5. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until they are firm.
  6. Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the mascarpone cream, being careful not to deflate them, with slow, bottom-to-top motions.
  7. Take the ladyfingers and quickly dip them in the cold coffee, without softening them too much.
  8. Arrange a first row of soaked ladyfingers on the bottom of a baking dish or individual serving cups.
  9. Spread a layer of mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers.
  10. Create more layers by alternating ladyfingers and cream until all the ingredients are used up.
  11. Let it rest in the fridge for at least 2 hours.
  12. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and, if you wish, decorate with whipped cream.

Curiosity

Coffee Delights can be seen as a variant of the classic tiramisu, where the mascarpone cream meets the intense aroma of coffee. Instead of cocoa, you might also try sprinkling with hazelnut grains or chocolate for a crunchier touch. The origins of tiramisu are contested among several Italian regions, but what is certain is that it’s one of the most appreciated spoon desserts in the world.
