Coconut Panna Cotta with Chocolate Sauce
17/11/2023Here’s an exotic variant of a classic Italian dessert: Coconut Panna Cotta with Chocolate Sauce. Before starting, make sure you have all the necessary ingredients.
Ingredients for Coconut Panna Cotta:
- 400 ml of coconut milk
- 100 ml of fresh cream
- 70 g of sugar
- 5 g of sheet gelatin (fish glue)
- 1 vanilla pod or a teaspoon of vanilla extract
Ingredients for the chocolate sauce:
- 100 g of dark chocolate
- 50 ml of fresh cream
- 2 tablespoons of sugar (optional, depending on desired sweetness)
Preparation
-
Start by soaking the gelatin sheets in cold water for about 10 minutes, until they become soft.
-
In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, fresh cream, and sugar. If using a vanilla pod, split it lengthwise and scrape out the seeds, adding them to the mixture; alternatively, add the vanilla extract.
-
Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has completely dissolved. It is important not to bring it to a boil.
-
Squeeze the gelatin sheets to remove excess water and add them to the warm mixture off the heat. Stir until the gelatin completely dissolves.
-
Pour the mixture into the small bowls or molds you have chosen and allow it to cool at room temperature. Once cool, place them in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until the panna cotta has set.
-
For the chocolate sauce, break the chocolate into pieces and place it in a saucepan with the fresh cream and sugar (if using). Melt it using a double boiler or very low heat, stirring until you get a smooth and even sauce.
-
Before serving, briefly dip the bottom of the molds in hot water to help the panna cotta come loose. Invert them onto plates and drizzle with the chocolate sauce.
This sweet symphony of coconut and chocolate is perfect to round off a special dinner with an exotic touch.
Curiosity
Panna cotta, whose name literally means “cooked cream”, is a dessert native to Piedmont. Traditional versions rely on cream, sugar, and fish glue; the variation with coconut milk adds a tropical twist that marries wonderfully with the simplicity of the original panna cotta.
