Cocoa and chocolate chip marble ring cake

The marbled ring cake with cocoa and chocolate chips is a classic and tasty dessert, perfect for breakfast or as a snack. Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 300g of all-purpose flour
  • 200g of sugar
  • 100g of soft butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 130ml of milk
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 100g of chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar (for decorating)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (356 °F) and grease a ring cake pan with some butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the soft butter with the sugar until you have a frothy and light mixture.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, incorporating well after each addition.
  4. Mix in the sifted flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, alternating with the milk. Stir well to obtain a smooth and even batter.
  5. Divide the batter into two parts. Into one half, incorporate the unsweetened cocoa, mixing until the color is uniform.
  6. Add the chocolate chips to the other half of the batter, stirring gently to distribute them evenly.
  7. Pour the batters into the ring cake pan, alternating them to create the marbled effect. With the help of a toothpick or the tip of a knife, gently swirl the batters to accentuate the marble effect.
  8. Bake the ring cake for about 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the ring cake cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cool, you can dust the surface with powdered sugar.

Fun Fact

The technique of “marbling” the batter is a classic in pastry and adds not only a nice visual effect but also a pleasant variation of flavors. It’s important not to overwork the batter with the cocoa to avoid mixing the colors too much and to maintain the marbled effect. Enjoy your baking and bon appétit!
