Cloud Omelettes
17/11/2023The Cloud Omelettes, also known as “Cloud Eggs” or “Egg Nests,” are a playful and airy take on the traditional omelette. Here is how to prepare them.
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- Salt, as needed
- Freshly ground black pepper, as needed
- Finely chopped aromatic herbs to taste (for example, chives, parsley, or thyme), for garnish
- Grated cheese to taste (optional)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 230 °C and line a tray with parchment paper.
- Carefully separate the yolks from the whites, making sure to keep the yolks whole.
- Whisk the egg whites to stiff peaks with a pinch of salt, using an electric mixer or a hand whisk. You can consider the egg whites ready when they don’t move even if you turn the container upside down.
- With the help of a spoon, place the whipped whites onto the prepared tray, forming four separate mounds.
- Use the back of the spoon to gently create a well in the center of each mound, where you will later place the yolk.
- Bake the egg whites for about 3-4 minutes, or until they become slightly golden and crispy on the edges.
- Carefully remove the tray from the oven and pour a yolk into each of the wells you have created in the egg whites.
- If you wish, add a pinch of black pepper and sprinkle some grated cheese over each yolk.
- Put back in the oven for another 2-3 minutes, or until the yolks are cooked to the desired doneness.
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately, garnished with the chopped aromatic herbs.
Curiosity
The Cloud Omelettes originated as a social media trend thanks to their unusual appearance and light texture. They have become a popular choice for a healthy, Instagrammable breakfast and represent a fun variation on the more classic omelette or frittata. You can also enrich them with different ingredients, such as crispy bacon or sautéed vegetables, to add variety and flavor.
