Cinnamon Biscuits
17/11/2023Cinnamon biscuits are a classic dessert, perfect to accompany an afternoon tea or as a little indulgence. Here is the recipe to make delicious cinnamon biscuits, with an Italian twist.
Ingredients
- 250 g of all-purpose flour
- 100 g of granulated sugar
- 100 g of butter at room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Preparation
- In a large bowl, cream the soft butter with the granulated sugar until the mixture is homogeneous and creamy.
- Add the egg and continue to mix until it is well incorporated.
- In another bowl, mix the flour with the baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture, kneading until you have a smooth and compact dough.
- Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This will make the dough easier to work with.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 5 mm thick.
- Use a cookie cutter to cut out the biscuits and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake the biscuits for about 10-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the biscuits cool on the tray for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to finish cooling.
- Once cool, if desired, you can dust them with powdered sugar for an even more tempting effect.
Fun Fact
Cinnamon has a long history going back to ancient times, used not only in cooking but also for its medicinal properties. In the Italian Renaissance, spiced sweets were very much in fashion, and cinnamon was greatly appreciated in the preparation of traditional desserts, especially in Tuscany.
